Red Cube

Designer: Volker Latussek

Material: Maple and Mahagony

Goetz Schwandtner wrote about it:

“The Red Cubes puzzle is one of the puzzles by Dr. Volker Latussek, which are easy to understand and require some systematic thinking to solve. The goal for this one is to create a stable shape from the pieces, so that five red cubes appear, meaning that each red quarter of each piece forms a cube together with another red quarter from an adjacent piece. When I first tried this puzzle, I thought it might be simple enough and started building, just to find out that there is a nasty piece that has red parts on opposite sides, and which does not want to cooperate with the others. Solving the challenge with the four other pieces is easy, but the complete goal with all five pieces and five red cubes required a nice Aha! moment, and after that some more experimenting how to implement the idea. A great puzzle, easy to understand, but not too easy to solve!”
